Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

User Information

I forgot my User Name or Password. How do I get a new one?
It's best not to create a new username if you already have one in the system, since all your completion records will be lost. If you remember the email address you used to create your original username and/or password, you can have the current username and password sent to you by clicking here.

Or send an email to eota@eota.energy.gov requesting your username/password and the information will be sent to you. We will not issue user information over the phone.

How do I update my personal information?
To update your personal information simply log on to your EOTA Homepage, click on the Preferences tab, and update the appropriate fields.

Will my information be given out to others?
No. The only information that will be shared is for specific groups of people (RAP, Consequence Management) for whom this sharing is necessary.

What Address should I use in my Profile?
It is preferred that you use your home mailing address to ensure that requested training materials are not misrouted.

Course Information

I'm not a government employee. Can I still take a class?
Yes! EOTA courses are open to anyone in the private-sector, national and international organizations who require professional training, education, and vocational services.

What if I have a question about a course?
If you have a general question about any of our courses, please contact the Web Community Specialist at eota@eota.energy.gov.

If you have a question about a course that you've registered for, on your Homepage click the My Training tab; click on the course and on the right side of the page will be an email link to the course manager so that you may ask him/her directly your questions.

What if I get a blank screen when I try to view a course?
There are few reasons why a blank screen appears when accessing a course; here are some suggestions to correct this problem. If none of these works, please contact us at eota@eota.energy.gov.

  • Your computer keeps bringing up the same cookies: try emptying your history/cache folder, close your browser, and try again.
  • You have pop-up blockers on: make sure the pop up blocker is off, then try again.
  • Many firewalls will not allow the page to open: contact your IT department to see if this is the case.
  • Try another computer if possible to see if you are able to view the page; your computer might need to be updated with the course plug-in (e.g. Flash/Shockwave).
  • Why do I have to take a test?
Tests are required to ensure the effective and efficient training of emergency operations personnel throughout DOE who are or may become involved in the planning, preparedness, and response of vital national resources, and are able to demonstrate appropriate use of the methods taught in each course.

I took a course -- why didn't it mark off as completed?
If you've completed a course and it didn't mark off as completed, please let us know. We are upgrading our website to correct this problem.

Do I have to return the video materials you sent me?
No. You may keep all training materials or share them with anyone who is interested in taking the course.

How long will it take to get a video?
Providing that the video or CD materials are in stock, you should receive them within one to two weeks. If the materials are out of stock, they can take up to a month.

Why do I have to take a survey to get my certificate?
In order to meet your training needs with the best quality, most cost effective, and timely manner we ask that you take a survey to help us improve our training with your feedback.

How do I get a certificate?
After completing and passing the online course, close the pop-up window that contained the course, refresh your homepage (F5), and then click request certificate. Complete the survey, then you'll be able to print your certificate. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If I lose my certificate, how do I get a new one?
If your certificate is lost, you may download a replacement at any time. Simply return to the course and click 'Request Certificate'.
